APEX Legacy · a way of life

Fruit Punch

24g+ sugar per serving, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial color. Consumed daily in many Black households. This needs a straight conversation.

Why it is ours

The large orange Tampico jug is as recognizable in Black and Latino households as the bacon grease jar. It is the affordable, available, culturally normalized beverage.

What it does

Fruit punch drinks typically contain 24-28g of added sugar per 8oz serving, almost entirely from HFCS. HFCS bypasses satiety signaling, goes directly to the liver, and is preferentially converted to triglycerides and visceral fat. These products contain 2-5% actual juice.

How it is cooked

There is no rehabilitation prep for these products. The goal is replacement. The tier-1 swap is hibiscus tea or sparkling water with a splash of 100% juice.
