Black Krim Tomato

A dusky brown-red tomato with greenish shoulders and a rich, almost salty, smoky-sweet taste. One of the original 'black' tomatoes prized for intense flavor.

Why it is ours

A dark heirloom that brings dramatic color and a low-salt-needed savoriness to the plate, useful for anyone cooking to reduce sodium without losing flavor.

What it does

The dark pigment of Black Krim layers anthocyanin antioxidants on top of the lycopene every tomato carries, making it an especially rich antioxidant fruit. Lycopene's link to lower prostate cancer risk is directly relevant to Black men's doubled mortality, and absorption rises sharply with cooking and fat. Potassium and a low glycemic load support blood pressure and metabolic health.

How it is cooked

Stunning sliced raw for its color and savory depth; also cooks well. The naturally savory, almost salty flavor means it needs little added salt — a plus for blood pressure. Cook some with olive oil for lycopene.
