Ground Flaxseeds

Ground flaxseed — the richest plant source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA omega-3) and the highest food source of lignans (phytoestrogens with specific breast and colon cancer protective activity). Must be ground for full absorption — whole flaxseeds pass undigested. The 1-2 tablespoon daily recommendation is one of the most evidence-based dietary interventions for multiple conditions.

Why it is ours

One of the most accessible, inexpensive, and evidence-based foods for breast health, cardiovascular protection, and hormonal balance — available at Walmart for $5/bag. APEX provides the dosing protocol and mechanism that makes this simple addition transformative.

What it does

Flaxseed lignans are metabolized by gut bacteria into enterolactone and enterodiol — estrogen modulators that compete at estrogen receptor sites. Clinical evidence shows 30-40% reduction in breast cancer risk with regular consumption. For women with fibroids (estrogen-driven tumors), lignan modulation of estrogen signaling is mechanistically directly relevant. The ALA omega-3 is converted to EPA/DHA at low efficiency but still provides cardiovascular benefit. Soluble fiber reduces LDL cholesterol by 5-10% in clinical trials.

How it is cooked

MUST be ground for benefit — whole seeds pass through undigested. Buy whole and grind fresh in coffee grinder (ground flax oxidizes quickly). Or buy pre-ground and store in refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. Add 1-2 tbsp to smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, or any porridge. Tasteless when mixed in.
