Marula Fruit

Plum-sized yellow-white tropical fruit with extraordinarily high vitamin C content (8x orange), rich oleic acid in the kernel, and unique fatty acid profile with anti-inflammatory properties. Both the fruit pulp and marula oil (from the kernel) are commercially valuable.

Why it is ours

The marula tree was the pharmacy of Southern Africa. Every skin problem, every immune crisis, every nutritional gap — addressed with marula. Now it commands premium prices in European luxury skincare under 'exotic African oil' marketing. Your ancestors' medicine is a luxury commodity.

What it does

Marula pulp delivers 8x the vitamin C of orange juice per gram — exceptional for immune support and collagen synthesis. Marula oil (cold-pressed from kernel) is 70% oleic acid with documented anti-inflammatory effects on skin conditions including eczema and keloids — directly relevant to Black American skin health concerns.

How it is cooked

Eat fresh pulp directly. For marula oil: available commercially from South African producers (pure cold-pressed marula oil). Juice the fruit for high-vitamin-C drinks. Pulp can be fermented into marula beer (traditional) or made into jams.
