Why it is ours

Carolina Gold rice and the Gullah-Geechee rice economy built Black wealth that Black hands rarely kept. Rice bran oil reconnects the grain's overlooked bran layer to a health benefit.

What it does

Rice bran oil's signature compound is gamma-oryzanol, shown in clinical trials to lower total and LDL cholesterol and to ease menopausal hot flashes. It also carries tocotrienols — the more potent vitamin E family that targets the same cholesterol-synthesis enzyme as statins, alongside antioxidant protection of blood vessels. Its balanced fatty-acid profile and high smoke point (around 450F) make it a stable, heart-supportive frying oil that does not carry the heavy omega-6 oxidation problem of soybean or corn oil. For rice-centered diaspora kitchens it carries a quiet logic — the good of the grain's bran, returned as oil.

How it is cooked

Excellent for stir-frying, sauteing, and deep-frying given its high smoke point and mild flavor. Light enough for dressings. Store cool and dark.
