APEX Legacy · a way of life

Trail Mix

A loose blend of peanuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and a little dried fruit — the assembled snack that puts the genuinely-good foods in one handful. Quality lives entirely in the mix.

Why it is ours

Trail mix is the modern descendant of the parched-peanut pouch and the donkwa ball — portable nut-and-seed fuel for people who are moving and working. Assembled from the foods already deep in Black diaspora eating (groundnuts, seeds), it is a habit-friendly way to keep good fat and protein in a pocket.

What it does

Built right, trail mix is the single most useful grab-and-go snack APEX can put in a person's hand: peanuts and seeds bring protein, magnesium, zinc and heart-healthy fat, and a little dried fruit adds fiber and iron with sweetness the nuts balance. Magnesium and potassium target blood pressure; the protein and fat steady blood sugar. The whole thing turns on the recipe — skip the candy pieces and the sugar-glazed nuts, keep dried fruit to a minor share, and lean on raw or dry-roasted nuts and seeds. Done that way it is a daily-tier snack that travels anywhere.

How it is cooked

Combine dry-roasted unsalted peanuts, pumpkin seeds (pepitas) and sunflower seeds with a smaller amount of raisins or unsweetened dried mango. Optional: a few cacao nibs. Avoid candy-coated pieces, yogurt chips and heavily salted, sugared mixes. Portion into small bags.
