APEX Legacy · a way of life

Red Clover

Isoflavone-rich wild herb with demonstrated efficacy for menopausal hot flashes, bone density support, and cardiovascular protection. Contains daidzein, formononetin, and biochanin A — phytoestrogens that modulate estrogen receptors and reduce the cardiovascular risk that increases post-menopause.

Why it is ours

Menopausal health is one of the most underserved domains in Black women's healthcare. APEX surfaces red clover as the evidence-based, accessible phytoestrogen option that the research has documented but the clinic rarely raises.

What it does

Red clover isoflavones have 5 RCTs demonstrating significant reduction in hot flash frequency (average 44% reduction). For Black American women entering menopause — who have higher cardiovascular risk post-menopause than white women — phytoestrogen-based cardiovascular protection from red clover addresses the critical transition window. Bone density loss post-menopause disproportionately affects Black American women despite having higher baseline bone density — red clover's bone-protective isoflavones are relevant.

How it is cooked

Available dried at health food stores. Steep 1-2 tsp dried blossoms in hot water 10-15 minutes. Pleasant taste — floral, mild. Can drink 2-3 cups daily. Also available as standardized isoflavone capsules.
